Dominie began her career in animation at MTV as an art PA on Beavis and Butt-Head. She worked her way through the ranks, becoming the Production Manager on the series to eventually becoming the Production Supervisor for the MTV Animation Studio, overseeing such animated productions as Daria, The Head, and The Maxx.
While overseeing the studio Dominie was asked to art direct a myriad of products for the Beavis and Butt-Head brand. This led to a much larger role where she was asked to create and run her own department. Dominie and her group of artists brainstormed story lines and visuals for a slew of products, books, events and marketing materials that were released in conjunction with the animated feature film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. Simultaneously, her group was charged with helping to create a product line for MTV's animated properties for the opening of the Viacom Entertainment Store in Chicago, Illinois.
"Dominie is the rare breed of creative professional who can equally leverage both the right and left side of her brain. She is articulate, decisive, open-minded and powerfully creative."
Wanting to spend some time being hands on and explore her own projects, Dominie took a sabbatical in 2001 from animation to illustrate her own line of greeting cards. During this time, she also worked as a gilder and oil painter under the tutelage of Miriam Ellner's verre eglomise studio. After successfully building a small greeting card business with retailers from New York to Los Angles, she was eager to work on collaborative projects again.
In 2004, Mahl accepted an invitation from Curious Pictures to take the newly created role of Curator of Art + Design. Her wide skill set and wealth of experience lead to greater responsibilities and the larger creative role of Development Creative Director. Running her own small group of talent, they were tasked with visual development for animated projects ranging from film and tv to games and commercials. Pulling from her extensive visual stores, Dominie came to be highly regarded for her ability to deliver just the right visual style for projects aimed at a wide age range of viewers.
"Dominie has great taste and vision and a yummy imagination. She can reference any style and more importantly decode what you are really asking for. Even better, she can then find the people who can deliver on that look."
During her tenure, Dominie had the opportunity to develop visuals for film projects with directors Jonathan Demme, Michel Gondry, and the directing team of Ryan Fleckand Anna Boden. In the children's market, much of her focus has been on character development for projects for Disney, Nickelodeon, Fox and Paramount, PBS and TBS.
In 2011, Dominie made the switch to freelance and full time mom, giving her time to spend with her son and to work on her own projects.
Dominie lives in Brooklyn and Greenport NY with her husband and son.
